Egyptian Gods

Student researched Egyptian Gods and then created one by decorating a Lego Man. Then students created a word bubble with a Figurative Language quote that the God might have said. Students had fun making, learning and creating.

Acting out an Egyptian Cinderella (good job)!

Today students acted out a scene from the story "An Egyptian Cinderella". Students worked in small groups putting together their performance, then we performed on the school stage in the DATA cafeteria. Students did a great job. Once we were back in the classroom we posted messages on our class website about what we liked and learned about the experience.

A Taste of Egypt (thanks Mrs. Geib)

Thanks to Mrs. Geib we were able to taste test some great foods from Ancient Egypt. First we watched a short video (and took notes) about the foods of Egypt. Then we learned about the taste buds and how the foods we eat work in our mouth! Then we tried and took notes on the following foods:
Calmyrna Fig, Black Mission Fig, Fresh Pomegranates, and Dried Pomegranates.
Then we posted our thoughts and new insights on the class blog in THinkqeust. Fun and Ymmie!

Response To Literature

The writing focus for Quarter 2 is Response to Literature. In the past two days we have talked about what a response to literature is and how to write a good one. We know it is a summary with an analysis of the characters. Since we have a deep understand of the story of Isis and Osiris (we even acted it out), we decided to do our first response to literature on it. We annotated the story, then wrote an awesome essay. Next we created a fold-out to put the paper in. Next we typed it up. Students did a great job!

Why Does the Nile flow Away from the Equator?

Today we found out thanks to Ms. Harris and her amazing hands on lesson.
First students took notes on the unique features of the Nile. Then students made their own drawing of it. Next students made a model of a section of the Nile using play dough. Finally students put their section of the Nile together with the rest of the classes and came up with an impressive realistic model of the worlds largest River. After we put it together, Ms. Harris poured water over it and we watched the river flow "North". Pretty cool!

An Ancient Eyptian Story

We read the Ancient myth Isis and Osiris. First we wrote out a sequence of events of the story. Then students, in groups of six, presented a scene from the story (our first acting of the year). Students reflected on their performance in a message board on thinkquest. Finally we annotated the story and wrote a Response to Literature on this fascinating tale. Good work kids!
